Night fishing is a different Roatan. The reef predators that hide during the day come out to feed. The water is calmer. The Caribbean night sky is one of the darkest in the northern hemisphere, so if the boat lights come down, the Milky Way comes up. Our private night fishing charter runs after dark from Gibson Bight Marina, targeting the reef species that hunt after sundown.
Dos Reyes Roatan Charter uses the same 2024 custom 34-foot center console for night trips as every other charter. Twin Yamaha 250HP motors, full navigation lighting, Garmin GPS with sonar, and professional deck lighting for fishing at anchor.

When to Book
Roatan night fishing peaks in the moon window — 2 days before through 2 days after the full moon. That is when Grouper, Cubera Snapper, and larger reef predators are most active feeders. Captain Julio Bodden schedules night trips around this window when the calendar allows. Fishing is still productive outside that window; the moon window just tilts the odds in your favor for the trophy fish.
Species You Will Target
- Grouper — Black, Red, and Nassau Grouper are most active after dark, especially over structure.
- Cubera Snapper — one of the largest and hardest-fighting reef predators in Caribbean waters, most active at night.
- Mutton Snapper and Red Snapper — consistent night bite over reef and structure.
- Yellowtail Snapper — schooling reef species that feed heavily at dusk and into the night.
- Barracuda — attracted to boat lights, aggressive hits on live bait and jigs.

Technique
Night fishing in Roatan is primarily bottom fishing at anchor over known reef structure. Live bait, cut bait, and glow-jigs after dark. Captain Julio and first mate Eddie set the anchor over productive structure, put out chum, and coach guests through hook sets and drag settings for the larger reef fish that hit at night. If wind or weather turn during the trip, we reposition or return early — safety comes first on night charters.
Safety Advisory
Night fishing carries higher risk than daytime charters. Wind, weather, and sea state can change faster than daylight fishing. The captain has full discretion to end the trip or extend duration based on conditions. All USCG-approved safety gear is on board and every guest is briefed before departure. Non-swimmers and guests uncomfortable on the water at night should consider our morning half-day fishing charter instead.

What Is Included
Base rate covers up to 6 guests and includes fuel, fishing license, professional captain and first mate, all rods, reels and tackle including deck lighting for night fishing, live and cut bait, ice, coolers, safety gear, fresh fruit, and bottled water. Beer, wine, and food available as add-ons.

What if weather or seas are rough?
First safety is our Captains #1 concern! If conditions are changing our Captains know what is required to be 100% safe. Remember on Dos Reyes the Captain is 100% in charge and if the Captain states a need to go to shore that is exactly what needs to be followed. We cannot control the weather or the seas but all the Captains use and monitor weather, sea and GPS data from other boats and Captains. Please remember it can appear nice but weather moves in fast on the ocean. Please always listen to the Captain it is for your family and friends safety.
What should we bring?
You will be in the Caribbean Ocean, on a boat for 4 to 8 hours. Bring sunglasses, hat, sun screen, and a towel. A rash guard shirt is good for the reef gives a nasty road rash if you rub against the reef. Any long sleeve shirt works.
Where do you pick up guests in Roatan? Do you offer hotel and dock pickup?
Yes. On the island, we offer complimentary boat pickup at any dock within about 3 miles of our home base at Gibson Bight Marina, including Sandy Bay, Lawson Rock, West Bay, and West End. If your hotel, Airbnb, or resort has a dock in that zone, we can pick you up there at no extra cost. For guests arriving by cruise ship, we run round-trip land transportation from the cruise terminals: Isla Tropicale, formerly known as Mahogany Bay (Carnival, Princess, Holland America) is $150 up to 6 guests, and Port of Roatan / Town Center (Royal Caribbean, Celebrity, MSC, Virgin) is $125 up to 6 guests. Cruise-dock pickups use land transport rather than boat because the south-shore ports can have wave conditions unsafe for a boat approach. Our long-standing partnership with Captain Julio Bodden and Roatan Bilingual Tours provides a professional 15-passenger van for these transfers so cruise guests get a seamless door-to-marina experience.
